The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we're entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we've distributed over $2 million to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
Last night we took my 12 year old daughter to her first Phish show. It was one of the best nights of my life. She has been listening to this music since she was in the womb, but seeing it all live and drinking it all in with 20,000 fans was all too much. I found myself with tears in my eyes more than once as the band poured their hearts out, knowing they were touching the person who means more to me than anything in life.
Honestly, they could have come out and played Show of Life for three hours, and it probably would have still been a powerful and unforgettable experience, but instead they blasted it out of the park.
Glowing.
